This Month In IGNITE Wrestling History – August
Time to take IGNITE Wrestling fans in a trip in our time machine – the WABAC – to go on the most outrageous events in our history back to August 2018 as we crowned our Inaugural IGNITE Invitational Tournament Champion, The Aztec Warrior Alex Cruz.
The event held at Walking Tree Brewery would provide memorable moments for our fans as it was one of our final events with Rex Bacchus who lost his battle with cancer months later.
The event kicked off with a dark match that forever changed the women’s division at IGNITE as the “Queen of Crazy” Kilynn King took on fellow 3D Academy classmate Skyler Moore in a dark match that left everyone wanting more (or Moore).
The first tournament round featured Alex Cruz vs Justin Blax and gave fans a taste of what was to come. These two tore the ring apart in a match that was furious and fast paced to set the tone. Cruz advanced.
Next we saw best friends Rex Bacchus and CT Brown in a see saw battle with Bacchus using his backbreaker move to take advantage and take the win.
Critical Mayhem tag team partners Carlos Gabriel and Andrew Merlin showed fans one of the most evenly matched fights as the partners matched move for move with the win going to Carlos Gabriel who capitalized on a momentarily stunned Andrew Merlin.
Rounding out the first round matches we saw the debuting Troy Hollywood lose in a hotly contested match to Aaron Epic who deployed his usual underhanded tactics with interference from Aspyn Rose.
The second round saw Alex Cruz and Rex Bacchus put on one show stealing match that had fans on the edge of their seats. Cruz for the win to advance to the final round.
Aaron Epic then took on Carlos Gabriel who was eventually worn down by a series of stunning moves and a piledriver to take the win to face Cruz in the final round.
Punk Pro Champion Tripp Cassidy took on the debuting Gabriel Lacey in a match that nearly saw a new champion and firmly established Lacey as a new fan favorite.
Inaugural Women’s Champion Aspyn Rose took on the Katalina Perez as the two friends rounded out the afternoon leading to tournament finale.
Finally, the match that the entire day had lead to arrived. Alex Cruz battled the wily Aaron Epic who had previously defeated him in their first encounter to claim the IGNITE title. Cruz was relentless in his bid and despite the taunts to stay down, screamed I won’t give up, then flipped the tide of the match and stunned the crowd with a lightning-fast move that won the match and placed him firmly in the record books as our first tournament champion.
That was a trip back in this month in IGNITE Wrestling history.
Kilynn King: Her Road To AEW
Kilynn King is just one of those individuals that you meet and you think to yourself that you want to remember this moment because you know she’s got so much potential that she’s going to an impact in women’s wrestling. Known as the Queen Of Crazy, she’s taken on everyone from Leva Bates , Jamie Senegal, Trish Adora, Robyn Reid, Lindsay Snow, Skyler Moore, and Jason Dugan to intergender tag matches partnering with the likes of Milo Beasley and Deimos.
No matter what the match or who she facing across the squared circle she’s ready and willing to put it all on the ling to win. Her size and power made her stand out in a sea of smaller opponents but she’s got control and ring skills beyond her years.
Trained by the Dudley Boys, Jon Cruz, Billy Gunn, and Jay Rios, she’s got the pedigree of her school behind her to give her the ring skills needed to succeed in the industry and she’s fairly new into the sport and claimed one title but is a contender at various other promotions so we can easily envision her adding to her collection of belts with her repertoire of ring skills and sheer power.
With her martial arts background from six years of training, she has the discipline and the physical prowess to one of the top women in the world. While many wrestlers have spent the quarantine bemoaning the lack of work, she’s stepped up to the next level on AEW taking on the likes of Penelope Ford, Christi Jaynes, Mel, Diamante, Nyla Rose, and tagging against the Brandi Rhodes and Allie along with Skyler Moore.
We anxiously await the announcement of the AEW Women’s Tag Tournament to see if we will see more Kilynn King in tag team action. For now, we cheer loudly for the Queen Of Crazy and watch her rise in the sport.
The Snakeman: Serpentico
From his wrestling beginnings in Puerto Rico following a family tradition into the ring, Serpentico has been working toward the top of the sport From his ability to defy gravity as he flies from the ropes, turnbuckles and the mat, he’s coiled and ready to strike fear into the heart of any opponent who has the unique misfortune to be booked into a match with him. He has one of the most impressive training backgrounds in the sport having been mentored and trained by none other than Mil Muertes from Lucha Underground. From his ring aggressiveness, aerial skills and his use of chairs he certainly harkens back to his training and mentor but he’s taken it one step further making his character his own. From his aerial skills to his ability to adapt his match from lucha to chain wrestling to outright brawl he can hang with anyone in the sport.
In a recent interview in Orlando Weekly, he summed up this persona as, “I pattern my look, movements, strikes, and offense on what I interpret to be snake-like. For generations, wrestling has been a battle between a good (face) guy and a bad (heel) guy. In terms of storytelling, this tried and true approach will always work. But it’s also been a staple of wrestling since its inception. I want to take that and turn it on its head. I want there to always be an unease when I wrestle, a sort of unpredictability that comes with being patterned after a snake. Will it strike you? Will it let you be? One will never know. And that’s what I like to portray. Neither “good” nor “bad.” Just me.”
With over 17 years now in the sport, the list of companies that he has appeared at is extensive, but the most notable ones have been: AEW, WWE/ NXT, Impact Wrestling, Evolve, Ring of Honor, the Crash, Major League Wrestling. On the indy scene he has dominated at IGNITE Wrestling, Ronin Pro, Elev8 Pro (their longest-reigning champion), Pro Wrestling After Dark, Bizarro Lucha, Mucha Lucha Atlanta, PWX, Revolver and many more. All eyes are on him as we predict that he will be one of the next to be signed from the indy scene from his recent outings at AEW.

The Real Deal: Skyler Moore
IGNITE Wrestling fans popped hard when they saw the pint-sized heel sensation Skyler Moore among the invitees at the WWE Performance Center tryouts in April 2019.
The former dancer and cheerleader has already shown her versatility as she made her IGNITE Wrestling debut during the May 2018 Cinco De Mayhem show as part of the preshow dark match with fellow Team 3D Academy student/alumni Kilynn King. The two debuting women set the tone for the entire show as they had one of the biggest best matches by a rookie at our company.
Moore who has the all American blonde good looks throws off the crowd who mistakenly assume that this adorable female is one of the babyfaces then they are quickly put into their places as she fires up the crowd to let them know she’s no blonde-haired All-American sweetheart but is there to win by any means necessary as we have seen.
Whether it is her rapier wit and taunts to both fans and wrestlers alike she demonstrates an uncanny ability to get under their skin and throw off any momentum or offensive that they may have been mounting. By no means are we saying her ring skills don’t match her larger than life verbal skills. Armed with speed, agility and strength that is deceptive for her size, she’s been tearing up opponents in singles and tag action both.
In classic heel fashion, she uses whatever mean and props necessary to disarm and take advantage of the situation if warranted. During tag action during February’s IGNITE Wrestling Destiny show she absconded with the beloved stuffed rabbit, Roger (KiLynn King’s sidekick) and proceeded to tear the ears off his stuffed little body sending Kilynn King into a frenzy only to lead her backstage where she attacked her leaving her unable to return to the ring.
Upon her return and consequent double team with tag partner Marina Tucker, they took the win against an outnumbered and overpowered Katalina Perez. It is wily ring psychology such as this and working the crowd into a frenzy that has catapulted this young woman to the forefront of the indy scene at record speed.
With her training by the formidable Team 3D Academy, she already has quite the advantage over other competitors as she has taken to the heel worker style like a duck to water and is making herself a memorable part of any roster. She’s already racking up the titles as she has moved from the Florida scene to Elev8 Pro in Louisiana. We expect to see her wearing more gold around her waist in the coming months as she gains experience and shows her natural skillset.
We are looking forward to her return as we see her as a strong contender to take the title at IGNITE as well as a vital part of our burgeoning women’s tag team division. We wouldn’t be surprised to see her hoisting that belt upon its debut. She’s definitely one to keep your eyes on in the coming months and years.
Ethan Case: Back At Last!
After a two year plus absence, Ethan Case has returned to IGNITE Wrestling better than ever. We last saw him during Wrestlemania Week when he faced Tripp Cassidy in one of the most insane matches where the two traded personas only to switch back for the match conclusion.
During the time off, Case has been making a name for himself both in and out of the ring. He has taken on the additional role of training the next generation of talent.
Palmetto Wrestling Academy is a professional wrestling school and is ran by Head Trainer Ethan Case and Assistant Coach, “Built to Self-Destruct” Billy Brash. Since opening in 2017, the main goal of the PWA has been to develop top notch sports entertainers that can chase their dreams after graduation with confidence instead of “learning as you go”.
The Palmetto Wrestling Academy has been the proud home of many active wrestlers that have been making their names around the world including; Tracer X, “Tie-Dye Sunrise” James Johnson, Kevin Ray, “The Resident Baller” Aaron Berry, Fluffman, Patrick Scott, Mason Myles, and many more to come.
While he was not victorious in his four way number one contender’s match return, we expect him to make an impact once again at IGNITE as he puts the entire roster on alert that he’s back and ready for the win.
